According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the United State experienced its first cases of locally transmitted Zika Virus in Miami-Dade County in Florida. The cases were reported in August 2016. In October 2016, cases were also reported in Brownsville, Texas. Zika is also active in numerous countries in Central and South America, the Carribean, Puerto Rico and several island countries on the west side of the Pacific Ocean.
